We are going through a period of significant change in the corporate environment. The international initiatives on climate change, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the arrangements related to non-financial information, and the inclusion of sustainability criteria in the financing of companies and the investments promoted by the European Commission change the requirements for operation of a modern responsible company.
In this new environment, environmental and social issues are not a restriction on financial sustainability, an cost to be paid by the company. They are an opportunity for innovation, for new products, for competitiveness. So let the pioneering companies set the example. Going beyond mere compliance with institutional and Community requirements, and beyond even simply copying international practices. First and foremost, over time, they must create their own models for sustainable development, strategies which bear their own signature.

The Sustainability Performance Directory is the first Business Indicator for Sustainable Development for the Greek market and it is a reference framework for the management of non-financial information. It can function as a response to all organisations (GEMI, Capital Market Commission, Banks, Networks of Responsible Suppliers) and, at the same time, it can class companies into a group of pioneering organisations that are easily recognised by consumers and the chain of their stakeholders.
The Sustainability Performance Directory has been configured in accordance with the standards of the BRAVO Initiative, which promotes the initiatives developed in our country through extensive social dialogue and the GREEK SUSTAINABILITY CODE, in accordance with the standards of the German Code, which is a recognised European reference framework for the management of non-financial information.
Director General
SEV
«For SEV, the incorporation of the principles of sustainable development into corporate strategy and decision-making methods is inextricably linked to competitiveness. Through the SEV Council for Sustainable Development, we promote the provision of responsible information to companies through targeted actions, such as the first SDGs conference in March of last year and the recent study that outlines the business vision for Agenda 2030.
Therefore, we hope that this new initiative will contribute to the adoption of practices and tools of Sustainable Development by as many companies as possible - it is not merely a matter of ensuring a distinct competitive advantage, but a condition for survival in the complex and demanding framework that is taking shape today and to which we are called to respond as a business community. Because today, and not tomorrow, you will either be a sustainable company, or you will not exist…».
«The disclosure of non-financial information is the basis for evaluation of companies within the new framework being developed for the promotion of Sustainable Funding. The German Sustainability Code is a recognised European framework that supports companies within the new regulatory frameworks. The Greek Sustainability Code is the first national adaptation of the German Sustainability Code. The QualityNet Foundation has introduced four levels of maturity, something that enhances the credibility of the Code, making it approachable for small and medium-sized businesses. The Greek market is encouraged to gauge the socio-economic and environmental impact of its activities, and thus a Directory of Greek Corporate Sustainability is created, which will support the development of an indicator, which will have an effect on banks, investors, and the market in general.»
Professor of Economics NKUA
«It is necessary for the Greek economy to embark on a course of stable development, which will contribute to the gradual reduction of the significant imbalances which characterise it. Essential in this is the role of companies, which are called upon to operate competitively, to promote exports, and to replace imports with Greek products. In this context, the importance is highlighted of the Sustainability Performance Directory, a Business Indicator for Sustainable Development, which can serve as a tool for bolstering the competitiveness of Greek companies.».
Secretary-General of the Hellenic Bank Association
«Predefined conditions, particularly in economies with specific characteristics, or in economies that are based on small and medium-sized entrepreneurship, as is undoubtedly the case with the Greek economy, but not restricted to an area of this, solutions are needed which are tailored to each specific case, because these solutions can make the specific venture sustainable.
It is no coincidence that the investment interest of large Organizations have just about set as a condition - for their Shareholding, directly or indirectly, or in banks or businesses that will be subsidised through a bank - strict adherence to sustainability codes.»
Vice-Chairman of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission
«The disclosure of non-financial information contributes to measuring, monitoring, and management of the performance of companies and their effects on society. Thus, participation in the reference framework of non-financial information is expected to improve the confidence of investors, and chiefly consumers, in companies. In addition, it may lead companies to make longer-term investments, a prediction which, if confirmed, will reduce financing costs, attract high-quality investors, and facilitate sustainable funding.»
Chief Financial Officer, Athens Exchange Group
«Sustainable development that combines three significant elements for survival, a competitive economy and the social and environmental fulfilment of long-term needs, needed to find a business Indicator in the Greek market, and it succeeded in doing so with the Sustainability Performance Directory.
The Athens Stock Exchange, as a mechanism for raising capital for businesses seeking funding, attracting investment interest through the market, encourages the implementation of Sustainable Development principles and policies for improving the competitiveness of Greek companies.»
